FlamKeys
Well let’s just fix this little situation…
FlamKeys reverses the way the volume keys work on the Macintosh. When the FlamKeys app is running pressing a volume key (Volume Up, Volume Dn, or Mute) will send the volume key along with a command key + function key combo freeing your other hand for whatever it is you are doing there. And conversely if you press a volume key with the command key + function key combo a simple volume key without the modifier keys is sent to the computer.
How to enable FlamKeys:
If you have not done so already - drag this app somewhere where you can find it again, like your applications folder, or maybe where your audio software is. Next you need to follow these instructions to enable “access for assistive devices". This is an Apple sanctioned method for allowing you to select trusted applications that can modify keystrokes. Tell the Security and Privacy panel that it’s ok for FlamKeys to control your computer. Once you have done that restart the FlamKeys app and now your keys should be swapped around. If you see this help message after restarting something did not stick with the settings in the "assistive devices" setup.
* If you have your keyboard setup to have the top row of keys be F-Keys this wont work at all.
To make FlamKeys startup when your Macintosh starts up - right click on the app in the dock and select Options. From there select “Open at Login”. This will tell the OS to load FlamKeys when your computer starts up.
